An impulse is enough to remind you of what you love and truly cherish.
Many friends reminded me of how I had stopped writing my blog, however none’s words pricked me, until today when I sat down to watch the debating session on the LokPal Bill in the Lok Sabha. I wonder how much the ministers have in them to argue on and on baselessly for hours. From the debating experience I have, I have known that to win a debate it is good to stick to your arguments, bring on issues which strictly prove your point and convince others without getting into a brawl. Then how come do the ministers in India, who have been debating (on behalf of the aam janta, oops!!!), most of them since more than a decade or two, not know this. Sigh!
The people, we gave the power to carry our voices to the centre, today, much to my dismay, were still arguing on the necessity of the Lokpal bill and the Lokayukats. This made me speculate if they really are our voices or do they want us to be curbing under their voices.
Till this date, I was excusing myself on holding a view on how the Lokpal bill should be. Yes, it is 101% true that I have no idea on how a bill is drafted; more or less I am not interested either. But this rant and rave alarms me, I should hold an opinion on the fights concerning me (well, yeeeessss… every Indian should).
The purest of intentions are the ones most misunderstood. Ok. But this narrates whose story? The Government? The Opposition? Or is it Anna? Anna Hazare could not succeed in drawing a huge crowd on to the streets to support his version of the bill, the Congress is still trying to prove that its version of the bill is strong and effective where as the BJP is still not sure of the version it would have come out with if they formed the Government. The Congress wants the house to trust them. Oh La Laa! The Congress is fighting to introduce the bill so that it gets in safe hands and escape the caveats from Anna Hazare. And there will be no doubts in guessing the name of the political party who will be politically benefited if Congress does not succeed in introducing the bill in this winter session. Amidst all of this, we also have people, politicians questioning on Why Anna? A few of them who were eclipsed by Anna Hazare ironically say that they believe in the LokPal bill and its benefits but do not want one man to grab the fame. Lo kar lo baat!
I was gashed on listening to the only MP I adore, Mr. Sashi Tharoor, debate in the Lok Sabha. No it was not about how he speaks (aah! I can listen to him speak for hours, he is that a good speaker), it was about how adamantly he supported the Government projected bill. On the other side there was this MP who rattles blemishes on others, none other than Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav who proposed an “All-India save Anna health Committee”, he is a nuisance. The Prime Minister’s speech was less of a debate on the bill and more of a political speech about the achievements of his government with an eye on the forthcoming elections. And Sushma Swaraj is still singing the song of praises of the work done by Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government.
But seriously, this is all getting mundane. I hate writing it again and again on how everyone is fascinated and engrossed in filling their own pockets. Can this come to an end please? Can you ministers ever learn the value of the power you are showered with? Come join the people and become a part of the change. And only this will help in turning a developing India to a developed one.
And this reminds me of why I write. The contentment, the pleasure, the happiness I find in me after writing is immeasurable. Till I come back with a new post, a small message for all of you. When you know your own right, live it.
